Advantages of Modular ORC Units
In addition to high temperatures, also lower temperatures between 75 C° and 120 C° can be utilized to generate power by Rank® ORC units, while other technologies consider this temperature interval as the least feasible for CAPEX,
- Electricity can be generated efficiently from:
- Natural heat resources such as geothermal
- Idle/waste heat resources, such as by product of manufacturing processes; cooling water, flue gas, exhaust gas etc.
- Generated electricity can be utilized for internal usage or sold to local power grid,
- The modular Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) system can be placed near the heat sources within the operator’s premises due to its compact design and footprint,
- The system can be expanded over time by adding new modules in series or parallel to increase power generation capacity from the same heat source,
- When the temperature is high, multiple modules can be installed in a row (as a string of modules) to use the same heat resource without changing the volume (at same flow rate) in order to multiply the amount of electricity generation,
- When volume (flow rate) of the heat source is high, then power generation modules can be installed in parallel in order to multiply electricity generation amount.
- Continues power generation is achieved as 1 day per year is required for periodical maintenance,
- When the system has multiple units, the rest of the units can continue with power generation, while one of them is under maintenance.
In addition to Rank® units, Vinnenco provides engineering, procurement and field services for cooling and other system requirements to enable application of the modular ORC technology by Rank®.
